Sharp Compet 223

Brand: Sharp.
Model: Compet 223.
Origin: Japan.
Introduction: 1971?
Type: Desktop calculator operated with AC power.
Functions: 4-Basic function, constant and memory in accumulator mode.
Display: 12 individual Itron tubes for numerals plus one special tube (in a different color!) for Memory content and Negative indication.
Keyboard: 18 reed-switch plus four sliding switches for: Round mode, Constant mode, Decimal point selection and Memory operation. Also an On/Off switch to power up and open the cover.
Main chips: Two Sharp chips: SD3215 and SD3217, Five Hitachi chips: HD3216P, HD3218P, HD3233P, HD2901P and HD3258P, two Toshiba chips TM4352P. Datecodes are 2B and 2C, around february and march 1972.
Logic comments: Pseudo RPN input, no + and - keys, you must use Black= to add and Red= to substract from the display. If Memory switch is in "Sigma" position the calculator will add or subtract from memory register. You will see a "M" indication when memory content is not zero. You can handle the memory in the usual way: MR to memory recall and CM to clear memory. An Overflow condition is displayed with all zeroes and is no recoverable.
Remarks: Rare design from Sharp with sliding cover to protect the display and to make a shadow over it. Press the white button to power up the calculator and open the cover. To power down you can slide the cover to the close position or you can press again the white button. In this case the calculator will be shut down but the cover will remains open.
Size: 9.05 x 7.48 x 2.56 in, 230 x 190 x 65 mm.
Accesories: Dust cover.
Condition: (8/10) Very Good, working.
